How f*(^&% hard is it to fix an old gate which is a danger to every child playing on/near it?
In yet another case of gross negligence, a child died while another was critically injured, as the seven feet long iron gate they were playing on fell. The incident happened in front of Outram Lane police booth in Mukherjee Nagar area of northwest Delhi.
According to the police, the boys had gone to the colony along with their mother who works as a domestic help. “Viru (5) and Kunal (3) were rushed to Bara Hindurao Hospital where Viru was declared brought dead while Kunal is critical. Saroj, their mother was not around when the incident happened,” a senior police officer said.
“The gate was in a dilapidated condition for the last few years but no one took heed of it. As it was a colony gate, even the MCD cannot be held responsible,” the officer added. No case has been registered as the police are still investigating the matter.
According to the residents of the colony, several complaints had been registered about the condition of the gate but neither the RWA nor any authority took corrective measures.
“The gate was in a bad shape and children would play near it everyday,” a resident rued.
I don’t think anyone ever will be booked and held responsible for this atrocity and negligence.
