Is AP state assembly sitting duck ?
Posted in Security by admin at 1:11 pm |

Not that I’m duly worried about the safety of mostly-gundas-turned-politicians but since they are people’s representatives, a terrorist attack on the assembly will be a mockery of the security of our democratic governing body. This makes one thing clear. Our elected politicians are not only negligent of the safety and well fare of the public but also theirs :P Despite potential threat from Naxals and ISI agents, multi-tier security setup at the assembly is not fool proof. A ToI journalist found that the solar fencing installed as a primary form of defense to prevent intruders from gaining access to the building has been left unrectified over the past few years. This is happening despite repeated claims by top police officials that a good security apparatus is in place, if not foolproof.

Though security at various points leading to the entrance to the assembly looks impregnable, a cause for worry is the fact that any intruder can enter the fortified premises from the rear, abutting the railway track between Nampally and Lakdikapul, with little effort or sneak into the premises with ease what with the nonfunctional solar-fencing system.

This could be a possibility in spite of the 13 high-resolution remote-controlled cameras installed at strategic points across the premises. Though officials argue that their men are always alert, a cause for concern is the fact that the solar-fencing is mechanical in nature and not a single volt of power passes through it.

According to reliable sources in the Legislative Assembly, solar fencing of the entire premises was taken up during the Chandrababu Naidu government with a view to promoting non-conventional energy in a big way.

Hmm.. May be YSR didn’t want to continue the maintenance of Solar fencing since it was setup by CBN’s govt. :P

The sources said malfunctioning of solar-fencing was observed in the first year of deployment and was corrected immediately. However, lack of subsequent maintenance has resulted in failure of the system, despite having an annual maintenance contract with a local firm. Theoretically speaking, anyone who comes in contact with a solar fence is greeted by an impulse of non-lethal high voltage, strong enough to make an intruder immobile for a brief moment. However, nothing of that sort exists here.

This correspondent went to check the effectiveness of the solar fencing in front of the Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises on Sunday and found that the solar fencing was not working. A similar scene was witnessed at several points of the fencing system that encompasses the Assembly premises.

Thats a serious security lapse.
