Theres now a new forecast that rupee might strengthen further and dollar might fall as low as Rs36 by the year end with the new sops announced for exporters today.
The rupee has appreciated by over 8 per cent since the beginning of the year on robust capital inflows and due to the dollar weakening globally.
The RBI bought $24.7 billion of foreign currency between November 2006 and April 2007 to prevent a sharp appreciation of the rupee and simultaneously raised its overnight lending rate and the cash reserve ratio, the portion of cash banks need to deposit with it, to fight inflationary pressures.

Now, this makes me wonder if theres any point in still hanging around here
begging for permanent residency etc.. Its also about being at the right place at the right time. With Indian economy booming, coming years might be the right time to return back to the Mother country. Better late than never, I would say. Uhmm..but what about the software economy (bread and butter for many of us) which is heavily dependent on the US dollar ? I’m not an economist but I think falling dollar might take our software economy down along with it unless the software industry changes focus and diverts more attention towards the domestic front. We need more projects like Railways’ 5300cr “One Card System”
“We have about 14 lakh regular employees and 11 lakh pensioners. We are preparing a Rs 5,300 crore computerised One Card System for them so that they can access details of their employment”, senior Railway Officials told reporters.
Under the scheme, the ministry would provide employees and pensioners a “Unique Identity Number (UIN)” to access individual information, they said, adding beneficiaries would no longer have to visit different offices to know their employment details.
