Our frenz @ immigrationvoice came up with a brilliant idea
to send white flowers to Emilio Gonzalez in Munna Bhai ishtyle. Hes the Director of USCIS. It seems, They are going to even have messages like “Get Well: Hope USCIS recovers from its insanity”
.
Hundreds of Indian high-skilled professionals in the US who have been on a roller coaster ride over the past month in their effort to get the green card will draw attention next week to their frustration — with white flowers.
In a unique display of Gandhigiri — a demonstratively peaceful Gandhian protest popularised in a recent Hindi movie — scores of Indian H1-B visa holders who feel jilted by the abrupt changes in US immigration rules are planning to deluge US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Emilio Gonzalez with flowers on July 10.
Their peaceful venting stems from a June 12 USCIS notification that promised to fast track the green card process for tens of thousands of skilled foreign professionals and their spouses — only to disappoint later. The announcement led to a stampede in countries such as India and China for obtaining birth certificates and other related documents needed for the process. Applicants spent thousands of dollars to meet the requirements and the deadline.
But on Monday, USCIS rolled back its notification, turning, according to the lobby group Immigration Voice, “a glimmer of hope into despair.”
I’m not sure if this will ever draw any attention from the sensationalist US media. I don’t think any one really cares for the fate of legal immigrants here. I see more and more hurdles being created for people like us to come and work here legally, leave alone the hurdles for acquiring permanent residency. Quite sad indeed
But, I hope Dr. Gonzalez doesn’t develop any grudge and put more queries on the current and future applications
However, I like the fact that the people are coming forward to let their anguish known to others in a peaceful manner. We will come to know if this will result in any consequences
One more thing that could help is to digg that ToI article. US media might take notice of it if this tops in digg.
