Dr. Kalam was opposed by kangress for President as he was too good to be president, too knowledgeable person representing the talent of the country, too clean (read untainted). They wanted someone to represent the current UPA government ruling the country. Someone with tainted image (true to the values of the kangress), some one with few court cases pending. After suggesting at least 6 names, UPA finalized Ms. Pratibha Patil. Ms. Sonia’s choice was a master stroke as she was able to split the votes from Shekhawat’s vote bank and Left couldn’t oppose a woman’s name for not wanting to be a anti-women 
(Please don’t ask me when did they start caring about women or people). Till date, She was presumed to be a calm politician, no frills person and she had a non-controversial political career. But, to the delight of the Congress members, she’s proving to be a true-congress leader. There have been numerous allegations on her till date.. skeletons stumbling out of her closet each passing day ..
